The Alan Knight Award

An award for a new designer-maker to aid professional development

One of the founder members, master blacksmith and silversmith Alan Knight, worked tirelessly as an officer of the Guild for over forty years. Throughout this time he took on dozens of young apprentices in his workshop teaching them, through the medium he loved, to pursue the goal of excellence in creating works of art. In his memory the Alan Knight Award was created, and this has been presented annually since 1997.

The aim of the award is to help a new maker of any age with his/her professional development and to enable their work to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. Any designer-craftsman who has recently begun a career as a professional maker may apply. They do not have to be a memeber of the Guild.

The winner receives up to four free exhibitions (paying no sales commission or exhibition fees) with the Guild. The free exhibitions must be taken within one calendar year from the date that the award is bestowed. No membership fee for the Guild is required for that year. Application may be made by contacting the Membership Secretary, or individuals may be nominated by a member of the Guild.
